About Us

Ian Kenny Framing is a family owned picture framing business operating from Hamilton and Larkhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland. The first retail outlet was opened in Larkhall in 1989, although Ian had been framing pictures since the summer of 1976. He quickly established a reputation for quality work, and went on to open the Hamilton branch in 1992.

In Larkhall, you’ll find a fully insured, dedicated framing workshop where the public are welcome to speak to the framer who will be doing their work. In Hamilton, there is always a fully qualified framer on hand to speak to, so you are welcome to organise your framing there if you want.

At Ian Kenny Framing, only qualified, professional picture framers will take care of your artwork. Between us, we have around 80 years combined experience, so there is nothing much we haven’t come across before.

We are proud to be Advanced Accredited Professional Framers who are committed to Continual Professional Development. The Accreditation GCF(APF) Adv. is awarded by the Fine Art Trade Guild, which has been in existence for over a hundred years, and oversees standards for the Art & Framing industry.

We frame for many discerning clients who specifically travel from Stonehouse, Strathaven, East Kilbride, Glasgow, Edinburgh and even further afield.

Conservation and preservation of artwork, along with correct handling methods is extremely important, and Ian Kenny Framing became one of the first in the area to actively promote the use of quality conservation materials for use in framing.

In 1997, Ian passed the Fine Art Trade Guild “Commended Framer” exam – making him one of the first qualified framers in Scotland. The GCF programme was replaced by the ‘Guild Certified Framer’ programme in 2015, and this provides the UK’s only recognised framing qualification. As well as the basic qualification, there are three advanced modules which cover Conservation Framing, Textile Framing and Mount Design and Function. We are one of very few UK framing workshops who have all three disciplines covered at Advanced level, and are the only one in Scotland to have done so.

Ian has always fully supported the programme, and he has been the Guild Examiner in Scotland since 1999. He was Chairman and Master of the Fine Art Trade Guild, which is the body responsible for setting standards for the Art and Framing industry, from 2015-2019.  He is still an active member of the Framing Standards and Qualifications Committee.
